Problems enabling sharing to Shared Documents folder

I getting this error when trying to enable sharing for the Shared Documents
folder.

Error Message: An error occured while trying to share Shared Documents.
Access is denied. The shared resource was not created at this time.

This folder is usually set to be shared, hence the name Shared Documents,
but when i disabled it, it's not letting me have access to it now. Someone
please help! I had a few documents in that folder that i need!

i'm not sure if i'ts a "real" folder. my impressoin was that it holds shortcuts, something like 'hard links". after instalailng XP
(another computer) I soon realized Shared Documents was bizarre, then i avoided it. I may have later deleted it.

can you drag a shortcut from it? then use Properties, "find target.." button?

maybe view the Shared documents "folder" using one of the shell (?) utilities, such as xplorer2 lite?
