Problem with Zonealarm and XP

I am hopig someon here can help me out. I have a laptop and desktop
both runnning windows XP. I have set up a home network (with XP
wizard) to create a workgroup. I have Zonealarm (free verison 4.5)
installed on the desktop. Due to this I have disabled firewall
protection on the Windows side. When Zonealarm is enabled the
computers cannot communicate or see shares. I cannot even ping from
the laptop to the desktop. However, when Zoneaarm is disabled
everything works as it should. I have added the laptop as a trusted
host in the zone on the desktop but this is not working. Anyone know
how to resolve this. I want to continue to run Zonealarm as I am
using a wireless network and want all the protection I can get.
Thanks for the help.

I also have a laptop and a desktop both using XP and zone alarm version 4.5.530. They are presently connected via a wireless router to a DSl Modem. The router is acting as a DHCP server so I have set both copies of zone alarm to allow traffic from the IP range of the DHCP server. This works and I can share everything.

prior to setting up the wireless router I connected the machines via a 10/100 hub and put the ip address of the opposing system into the zonealarm and again it worked.

The only difficulty I am having is that I want to point both my systems to the same email folders using outlook express/tools /options/maintenance/store folder. However this does not sem to allow me to point to a folder on another system no mater how the drives are shared. This may not be possible but I would appreciate some help if anyone knows any way to do this.

Try using non routable IP's for the machines, then adding them to ZA
as trusted addresses.

How would you set the machines up as a non rotable IP. I added the
range pf addresses as the other user stated for the router with the
netmask, but it does not work. Any ideas?
