I have a small network with 6 PC's on WIN ME running on a
workgroup through a network switch. I have tried to
introduce a PC with XP Pro SP1. This new PC can see the
network and access shared files on the ME pC's. The WIN
ME PC"s can see the XP PC on the network but when I try
to access it I get an error "\\name is not accessible"
message. Simple file sharing is enabled in XP.
Any help appreciated.

Matt,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

Matt,

Is the Guest account enabled on the WinXP computer?

More about file sharing, between different versions of Windows:

Does the WinXP computer have a software firewall (ICF / WF, or third party)? If
so, you need to configure it for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445 and
UDP 137, 138, 445, by enabling the File and Printer Sharing exception, and / or
by identifying the other computers as present in the Local (Trusted) zone.
Firewall configurations are a very common cause of (network) browser, and file
sharing, problems.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
