Problem with wma file

I downloaded a wma file from a music site to import into a powerpoint
presentation. The file plays fine in media player, but when I try to import
it into the ppt presentation, I get an error message "powerpoint cannot
insert a sound from the selected file. Verify that the path and file found
are correct and then try again". What am I doing wrong?

It may be that the file is not licensed for anything other than playing in
Windows Media Player. Is this a music file that you purchased? Were any
restrictions mentioned when you downloaded it?

More information -- just tested using mplay32.exe and I get the error "A
Problem occured in initializing MCI". Any suggestions?

yes, this was a music file that I downloaded from walmart.com. I will check
to see if there are any restrictions, but I didn't think so.

If it's one of those $.99 jobbies, my bet is that it is for personal use only
and you can't legally distribute it. That would include using in a PowerPoint
presentation probably.

walmart is telling me that I should be able to burn to a cd and then import
into ppt. I will try this and see.

Yes, just like iTunes that you buy. Burn it to an audio CD. Then "rip" it to
an MP3. I think that if you rip it to WMA via WMP it may still contain the
encrypted protection, so MP3 would be safest. I recommend Audiograbber for
ripping. It's free and you can find it quickly using google.
