problem with win 98 machine on 2003 domain

luna_s

just put an ageing win98 machine on a domain - which has 3 2003 servers
(1 DC) and the clients are a mix of 2k and xp
the win98 machine seems to sit on the network correctly - can see other
machines
EXCEPT! the one machine we need it to see which is a 2k3 server (not the DC)
the win98 machine reports the machine as not found - even tho its visisble
on the network
any clues ?

Luna,

Is this the only WIN98 machine in your network? I bet it is the SMB Signing
process that is causing you problems! Take a look at the Microsoft
Knowledge Base and do a search for this and I am sure that you will find
your answer. I have not played with WIN2003 much yet but do know that this
is a common problem.

I'm assuming you mean that the 98 machine can't connect to the 2003 server
.... That would probably be because Windows Server 2003 doesn't natively
support down-level clients any longer. Install the AD client ...

When you say it's visible on the network, does that mean in net neigh or
where is it visible from for this 98 client. Can it see it doing a "net
view \\<servername>" or using its ip. Ping it by ip or name.
Is the directory services client for win98 installed on it.
thanks
