PROBLEM WITH URL'S and OUTLOOK MAIL

Windows XP. Office 2003.

Often, when I receive emails on my office computer (frequently forwarded
from home or other source), the url's appear in the http://www. form
without the picture or underlying web information.

Clicking on each url brings up the appropriate screen.

The behavior is very much what you get in an email that ends up in the junk
folder before it is moved to a regular mail folder.

What is going on here? How do I fix the receiving computer to display the
emails properly?

A URL is a string to denote the path to whatever is the site. There
is no picture with a URL. A URL is just a string. There is no
"underlying web information", whatever that is that you do not
describe. A URL is just a string. If the URL string is showing in
the body of the e-mail then that is what the sender put there, so the
e-mail with the URL *is* displaying properly.

sorry, I guess I didn't explain this properly.

I took an email from American Airlines that had various pictures (gif, jpg),
displays and formatting and forwarded it to my office computer.

All I got was text and a bunch of references. No pictures. No lists. No
displays. .

What do I need to do (with the office computer) to view this email the same
as it was sent?

is the office computer configured for plain text only? Is there an antivirus
scanner on either system that could be messing up the message? Are you
forwarding inline or as an attachment?

Just forwarding as is. No attachment.

Norton Antivirus + Windows Defender on both. Has never been an issue before.

How do I check for the "plain text" configuration. That sounds promising.

Perhaps your home setup has Outlook allow external content, like all
those *linked* images, and your work setup has Outlook block all those
*linked* images. It is highly likely that the original e-mail from AA
had linked images since even they don't want to waste the bandwidth
and time to send e-mails are are too huge to get into the mailboxes of
many of their recipients. Outlook at home blocked the linked images
so what you forward inline (and not as attachment) resulted in sending
the original content but without the blocked content. You could try
forwarding as attachment but you will still run into problems if your
work Outlook blocks the linked content.

At home, do you see the images when you view the e-mail that has them?
Or do you see red-X squares?

convert back only partially to HTML. The home computer says it is sending
in HTML. For some reason, it doesn't arrive at the office that way.

I suspect now that there is some issue with the office address as listed in
the contact file, or something similar. I'll check tonight.

Make sure when you send e-mails that you *include* the images rather
than link to them. In OL2002, under Tools -> Options -> Mail Format
tab -> Internet Format, enable the option to send a copy of pictures
rather than a reference to them. Also, when forwarding, forward as an
attachment, not inline.

FIXED!

For whatever reason, the email properties of this particular address in the
contact file had been set on text only instead of let outlook choose....

Changing that setting fixed the problem.
