Problem with system sounds after installing new Nvidia drivers

J

James Lawrence

Hi.

Can anyone help with me out with this problem please?

After installing the new Nvidia nForce Unified Drivers, my system sounds
only come out of the front speakers, not all six (I have a 5.1 Dolby
Surround 6-Speaker set up).

Inintially, this was also the case with Winamp, however I managed to correct
this by changing the output plugin to DirectSound (and sound to all six was
restored).
Windows Media Player plays fine without having to change anything - sound is
coming out of all six speakers.

Please can anyone suggest how to correct this problem with the system
sounds, so that they come out of all six speakers as per before the update?
For the moment, I've done a system restore, so that I can here out of all
six speakers again (using the previous set of drivers).

My initial thoughts were that the driver update might have changed the
default "sound playback" device in the sound settings part of the Control
Panel, however this is still set to "Nvidia nForce Audio" which was what it
was before.

Thanks a lot,
James.

nVidia's "Latest Drivers" of any sort usually cause troubles.

Try going to the control panel and switching to
the "classic" view. Double click "sounds and audio
devices" and click the "volume" tab. Go the the bottom
of the window and click on the "advanced" button. You'll
get a window that give's you a drop down selection for
your speaker setup down at the bottom of the window.
