Problem with set up

I am new to Vista and Windows Mail. I am trying to set up Mail and keep
getting an error msg. I can neither send nor recieve. This is the error msg:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject '', Account: 'Mchsi', Server: 'mail.mchsi.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The error message you included pertains to sending only.

That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off.

I have Spy Sweeper antivirus. I have tried turning off the Email Attachment
Shield, that did not work. I also have this error msg:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'Mchsi', Server: 'mail.mchsi.com', Protocol: POP3, Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Check your setup against these instructions:

http://www.mchsi.com/help/read/publisher_02/2002-01-15.33

Although these instructions were written for Outlook Express, they should
also work under Windows Mail if they don't call for the HTTP protocol.

Also, did you ever have a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that
computer, even one of the free trial versions that often come already
installed on new computers? Their uninstall programs often fail to remove
the parts of these programs that cause problems under Windows Mail.

Check if your list of installed programs includes Google Toolbar, Google
Desktop, or SMS desktop. If it does, uninstall them since they also cause
problems in Windows Mail. Web sites that let you ask for a Google search
are not a problem.

Yes computer came with a free trial of Norton. We uninstalled it without ever
using it. Is there something more I should do?

Use the Norton cleanup program, as Robert advised you.

If that does not correct the problem, do a trial uninstall of Spy Sweeper.

Well I am half way there. I followed all directions and now I can get my
messages, but still cannot send any. Thanks for the help!! Any more
suggestions would be much appreciated. Should I contact Webroot for help?
Change the port? (If so, to what? I know there are like 65,000) Here is my
error msg. (I get the same with Mediacom and Verizon)

Don't change the port. According to
http://www.mchsi.com/help/read/publisher_02/2002-01-15.33
they only support SMTP on port 25.
Does SpySweeper have any settings to disable its interaction with email?
If yes, try that. If not, do a trial uninstall, and reboot. If Windows Mail sends
successfully then, you've found the culprit.
