problem with removing start up items

I am trying to remove some programs from starting in the sys tray. I go to
msconfig and choose start up. I uncheck the ones I do not want to start,
click apply, and then get a "access denied". I am logged on the system
administrator. Any suggestions

Hi Rex:

The correct way to prevent a program from starting with Windows is to
open the program, go through its menus, find the option that controls
whether the program starts with Windows and turn that option off.

If the program does not have such an option, check the Startup folder.
The install may have put a shortcut to the program there.

Failing that, write to the program's own technical support and ask for
advice.

Any legitimate program that starts with Windows has a way to prevent it
from starting with Windows.

The System Configuration Utility's Startup tab was designed for
troubleshooting startup and shutdown problems. It interferes with a
program's normal operation, which can produce unpredictable results.

Have a very happy new year.
