Problem with permissions

Ken K

I have a home network with 4 computers. Two run Win2K, one runs CP, and
one runs Win98.

My computer is running Win2K and has a swappable 250MB hdd on which I
keep backup images of my own and the other computers. All are able to
backup to my L: drive partition EXCEPTt one, the one that is running
XP. Previously the XP computer had been running Win98 and also had the
same problem. I had upgraded the OS hoping to overcome the situation
but it was not successful.

When I look at network places from the XP computer, it can see my
computer and all of the drives. However, when I try to access the
partitions (in this case, L drive), I receive the following error
message: (the situation is the same for all drives and all have sharing
allowed)

\\KEN\L drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I have enabled Guest, Power Users, Administrator permissions on my
computer to allow every one of the categories of users for the WinXP
machine to access the Win2K machine. All of the computers and printers
on the network are seen from all of the other computers. I thought that
the problem might have been with Zone Alarm, so I disabled it, but that
did not work. Occasionally I do receive a dialog box on the XinXP
computer asking for a login and password but all of the correct
combinations do not result in access.

Help!!!!!! I am tearing out what few hairs I have left....

Try:

1. Give the Guest account permissions on both the Sharing tab and on the Security tab.

2. Uninstall Zone Alarm - disabling it is not enough.

Thanks for the reference! That did it. I had not been in the event log
before and found many 2011 errors. They appear to correspond to all of
the times that I had been trying to connect from my daughter's XP
computer. Having changed the stacks to 15, I now have no trouble.

A couple of questions, if you have the time.

1, is there any reason to not increase the number of stacks to greater
than 15? (I am running Windows 2000)

2. What is actually being done when one increases the stacks that
corrects the problem? is there a limit depending on resources and what
are the limiting resources?

Thanks

Ken,

I actually don't know the technical details. The only thing I
can say that this problem seems to occur only when some program
changes this number, apparently by mistake. I have never seen
any problems with the default value of 15. Probably nothing to
worry about.

If anybody else knows more, please chime in.

Thanks again. I will watch to see if anyone can add anything but I am
grateful for the solution to my problem. Everyone was too quick to
ascribe it to a problem with Zone Alarm, when, in fact, having changed
the setting to 15, all is working well with Zone Alarm in the background.
