problem with "open with"

Hello!
When I try to associate a file with a particular program,
or when I simply try to use the "open with" dialog box, I
have a major problem if the program I want to open the
file with is not on the list in the "open with" dialog
box. The "Browse" option in the "open with" dialog box
does not work. So if the program I want to use to open the
file is not on the list in the "open with" dialog box, and
I click on Browse and select manually the program I want
to use to open the file, the computer simply ignores me.

Why would it be doing this? And how do I add more programs
to the list of programs in the open with dialog box. I
can't understand why some of my programs are listed in
there, and others are not.

I hope this makes sense.

it will do this if the filetype has been customized
goto explorer/folder options/file types
select the file type you are trying to change
if it has been customizd a restore button will show
click restore button to restore file type to default

open with should then work ok

Thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't work
unfortunately. When I go into file types and try to
associate a program with a file type, I get exactly the
same problem: if a particular program is not on the list
in the "open with" dialog box, I'm out of luck, because
the "browse" feature within the "open with" dialog box
doesn't work at all.
Any other ideas?

i had the same issue and it worked for me
dont try to associate anythning in the file types menu
just hit the restore button and come out of it
then right click the file itself and try open with

if this deosnt work try deleting the file type in question
then after a reboot try to right click and open with again
