Problem with New System Build

Is it possible you could strip it down just to bare components (mobo,
cpu, mem, g/fx and power supply on a desk? No case required. Plug it
all together and then short across the 2 power pins to see if starts up.

I believe mobo needs to sit on something insulated also. Others here
could expand on this.

A piece of corrigated cardboard like cardboard boxes are made from works
just fine.

oh well...........

how big of a pwr supply are you running. I have had this problem several
times and always it was the power supply. I run a lot of hard drives (5)
plus some case lights and fans. I finally had to go with a 600W pwr supply
to run everything. When I didn't have enough power, the fans would come on
and the case lights would work but that was it. The drives wouldn't spin
up or anything beyond that point. Do your drives spin up?

This should rule out any kind of shorting out on the case that is
preventing it booting. Also, just as an afterthought, is the clear cmos
jumper set correctly?
Stripped the system entirely, placed the MoBo on a Phone book, installed
processor and processor fan ONLY with NO RAM, no cards, no drives.

Plugged in the main power connector to the board and the 2x2 connector
for the processor and then shorted across the power pins and SAME
result, powers up bu NO POST beeps or anything else!!!

going on the fact that the fans spin up I suspect the CPU before the
mainboard.
Even based on the fact that the system produces NO P.O.S.T. beeps
whatsoever?

Take the board out of the box, and hook up the psupply. If it
posts then, you have a short. Also, pull the battery for about
10 minutes, and try again. If no post then, it's the mobo.

That's why I suggested the CPU in my previous reply. The last three that
I've fixed for people with the same error as yours, and having tried all the
other possibilities, turned out to be a duff CPU.

Well that's what I will replace next after the replacement MoBO arrives!
Presuming that doesn't fix the problem of course

Just built a new system based around the Intel BOXD945PSNLK Motherboard
using 2GB of PC5400 DDR2 RAM, and an eVGA GeForce 7800 GTX and I cannot
get it to boot at all.

When I hit the power button the power lights and HDD light come on,
Processor fan spins up, PSU fan spins up, Graphics card fan spins up but
no display whatsoever and no POST bleeps!

Tried re-seating all power connectors, RAM, and Video Card but still
nothing! Also tried reseating processor.

Any ideas guys?

To everyone who replied to this thread, thanks guys!!! It turned out to
be the MoBo that was the culprit and when replaced the system booted and
ran fine!!
