Problem with Lifeboat Hang error and DDE

I've got one use that is on XPSP3, Excel2k7SP1 and is getting an Lifeboat
Hang error when using dde (past link special) to connect to our custom DDE
server software that is running on the same machine.

This user's machine is the only one doing it. All other's are not having
this issue.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the lifeboard hang
error?

Thanks.

It is an error showing up in the Application log in the Event Viewer. I have
no idea what it is, just the viewer calls the error.

It is not in the VBA error list, so I can't help. Maybe someone else is
familiar with it.

I would like to know what a lifeboat hang error is?

I have absolutely no idea what a "lifeboat hang error" is in the
context of computers, let alone specifically Excel, but it is a
meaningful phrase regarding ships of the past. If a ship is sinking
and tilts to one side, the lifeboats on that side of the ship will
swing outward and away from the edge of the deck, putting them out of
reach of the hapless passengers. The lifeboats are present and ready
to save the passengers, but they are just enough out of reach to doom
the passengers. Perhaps the message indicates that a solution exists
(in theory) but cannot be accessed (in practicality).

Beyond that, I'm at a loss.
