Problem with Intenet Connection Sharing (ICS)

Hi all,

I made a small home network using two Bluetooth (1.1) USB (1.1) Adapters
connected to the two PC's I have at home. Everything went fine (i.e. the file
sharing and stuff), now I want to connect to the internet using ICS feature
in Windows XP.

I connect to the internet using DSL connection through DSL modem conneted to
the PC that runs Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 (the other PC runs Windows
Xp Pro with SP2). To setup ICS I used Network Setup Wizard; but I, still, can
not share the connection, even more; when I tryed to do it manually; I could
not find the option for ICS in the advansed tab of the properties of my DSL
connection (i.e. right click "Start > Control Panel > Network Connections >
My DSL Connection" then Properties > Advanced)?!!!

Is ther is something wrong I did? Or I missed something I have to do?

Please help, and thanks in advance.

Hi serge calderara;

I tried everything ;) I used either the automatic and manual configurations
as documented by MS.

Manually I used 192.168.0.1 for the PC that supposed to be the server and
192.168.0.9 for the other as the IP's and 192.168.0.1 on the cleint (i.e. the
other PC) as the default gateway and the preferred DNS.

The ICS option only appears when there are one or more available
network connections for the home network (LAN), and the Internet
connection isn't bridged. If there's a network bridge, delete it.

I don't know whether ICS can use a Bluetooth connection for the home
network. I've only used it with Ethernet and IEEE 1394 connections.

By coincidence, I've ordered a couple of Bluetooth adapters that
should arrive later this week. I'll try ICS with Bluetooth and post
another reply then.

Hi Steve Winograd [MVP],
"The ICS option only appears when there are one or more available network
connections for the home network (LAN), and the Internet connection isn't
bridged." That is my case. I have a LAN at home and not-bridged Internet
connection, and still can not see ICS option :(

Note: I tried to setup the ICS on the second (client) PC, and ICS option was
there!!! The problem is that I can not permanently use this PC as the server;
because it is an old PC and may die :p

Thanks and I will wait for your next post.

My Bluetooth adapters just arrived, and I've successfully set up
Internet Connection Sharing via Bluetooth between two computers.

Since your second PC offers ICS via Bluetooth and the first one
doesn't, something must be wrong with the network settings on the
first one. If you've enabled ICS on the second computer, disable it.
Then, open the Network Connections folder on both computers and
compare the settings. Look especially for a network bridge or for
differences in firewall settings.
