Problem with EXPLORER.EXE XP Task Manager CPU running at 100%

Hey,
Just recently, I have noticed that in TaskManager in
XP, that Explorer.exe is not losing any resources, rather
climbing higher and higher, and eventually the CPU is at
100 percent usage, and it then bogs down the system, and
barely moves. I have Norton AV and Firewall, can't find
any trojans or viruses, any idea how to get explorer.exe
to relinquish the resources once they are closed? I am
running Pentium II 800 mhz 512 MB RAM with two hard
drives. Any help would be appreciated!
