I assume you mean you ran the following Fixit:

"How do I clear past items from the Customize Notifications
dialog box in
Windows XP"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283084

Did you verify that the "fixit" worked, by restarting your computer?

Did you try using a Restore Point dated prior to running the Fixit?

Have you tried reducing the size of the "Active title bar" in
order to get
the drop down menu items back?

Right click Desktop, and select properties.
Left click on the Appearance tab and then the Advanced button.
Select the "Active title bar" item.
Reduce the size of the bar.

Try deleting these two registry values :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
"IconStreams"=""
"PastIconsStream"=""

....then clear the check-box for "Hide inactive icons" in the
"Taskbar and
Start Menu Properties" (press [ok] to exit), then reboot.

Hopefully, when you logon again, all will have corrected itself,
and you
can hide inactive icons once again from "Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties"...

I got it fixed.

I had to change my fonts from Extra Large to Large.
