Problem with Ccnon Pixma MP170 and Win 2000

Hi Everyone,

I run Win2K SP4 and have trouble with scanner drivers.

I just bought a Canon Pixma MP170 multi function machine.

It has a driver for the printer: mp170pr.inf and one for the scanner:
mp170sc.inf.

The problem is that Win2000 does not recognize either one. Instead it comes
up with another one that it says is closer to the right driver:
winnt\inf\oem20.inf. If I give it the go ahead, it starts to install and
suddenly stops.

I have followed the manual's instructions but all attempts so far have
failed. Has
anyone used this machine with Win2000?

TIA

Sounds like you are trying to install the wrong file.

Inf is not the installation file.

You shoud have a CD with the software for the unit.
The correct file to run is Setup.exe.

If you have autorun enabled, you should get a installation program when you
insert the CD.

If not Start>Run, browse to the CD and run Setup.exe.

You also should not plug in the unit until the software is installed.
Always install the software first.
