Problem with Caller ID

Not long after I got hit with spyware in Dec., my caller ID stopped working.
Along with this though, there is no dial tone and the computer dials up by
itself. All of the most basic things I could think of have been done,
(closing icons in toolbar and modem volume ie.) Even though the spyware keeps
coming back, these problems still occur when I use "Spy Sweeper" to destroy
the spyware and I know the infections are gone for that time frame. If
anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I never new there was a special program, I had it before with 98' awhile ago
and now I have a Gateway setup w/ XP and a GTW V.92...It makes like a
"BLING" sound when a call comes through and shows there's a caller and the
no. You can hit ignore or answer.

Back to the spyware removal problem.

You should use something like Spybot Search & Destroy.

Once it is installed, get the latest updates. Now restart your PC in safe
mode!

Open up Spybot and then immunise the PC.
Now you are ready to 'Search for Problems'.
Delete ALL the nasties identified by the search: no exceptions.

Reboot the PC again into Safe Mode and RUN IT AGAIN going over the same
steps, just to be sure.

Reboot into normnal mode and your problems should be behind you.

If you run the detection and removal in Normal mode, some of the nasties
will be running on the PC and will not be able to be 'destroyed'.
