Problem with autocomplete

Hey, im new here and i have a problem with autocomplete. Its turned on
(box is checked) in the options in my spreadsheet. However when i am
filling out my spreadsheet i am finding that its as if its only
autocompleting my cells by its own choice. For instance i type in
"test" in a cell. I then go to type in "test" in another cell and it
autocomplete's it, but in the next cell it doesn't attempt to. Is this
a known problem ? Is there a fix ?

There are rules that autocomplete follows--you have to be in the same column and
not too far away.
