Problem with ADSL router

Hi everybody,

I have a strange problem with a ADSL router in Windows XP. I intend to
use this router to access the internet, and my computer is wired
connected to it. I have configured my LAN (ADSL connection) to use
DHCP. It seems that this works OK, as my computer receives an IP
address and DNS address from the ADSL router. However, there is no way
to access the router from my computer (so I cannot access the Internet
either). It's like the IP address of the router is nowhere to be seen.

I think this is strange, it's like the router can communicate with my
computer but not the other way around. Any ideas about what can be the
problem? Could it be an issue with the ADSL driver? Any ideas about how
can I clarify how to solve this?

I'd be very grateful for any ideas, I'm kind of puzzled with this...

Thanks in advance,

S.

What address are you using to attempt to connect to the router?
it should have an IP address of it's own.
do you have the detect network settings automatically checked?
Mine is a dlink I remember I had problems with win 2000 and my router, xp was
nice, saw the router right off, read your directions with the router
carefully.

If I understood correctly, you want to access the router's
configuration/setup page?
In a command prompt, type ipconfig and hit enter
Note the ip address for default gateway
Plug the address (192.168.0.1 for example) in Internet Explorer
http://192.168.0.1
For password, it depends on the make of the router (most use admin or
password)
If above fails visit the manufacturer's web site.

Hi everybody,

yes, I have tried to connect to the router's IP address (both through
the web browser and even by "ping") and it doesn't work. This is the IP
address that appears by typing "ipconfig" as my default gateway
address, and I know it's the right one because I can connect a portable
computer to the router (also wired) and I can use that IP address to
connect to the router.

So... I don't understand what is the problem. The IP address is right,
the router communicates with my PC but I cannot talk to the router from
the PC.

I have the automatic detection features in my LAN configuration. I
really don't know what else to try! I hope you can help me or give me
any advice or test I can do to try to see where the problem is.

Thanks in advance,

S.

open a command prompt window and type
"ipconfig /all > c:\test.txt" (with out the quotes, and press enter)

then, open c:\test.txt in notepad, and copy/paste the contents in your
next post here.
