Hi All,

When I try to install Windows Defender Beta x86 it gives a popup message "A
required update to Windows Update is available at the Windows Update website.
To view a list of all installation requirements, visit the Microsoft website:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=63848" and this link takes be back to
the download page.

I am running Windows XP service pack2. I really don't understand why their
is a problem.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Manish,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistrator.

Be sure you have installaded Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is
availªble
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

Run this test
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm
Look for the broom Clean up, also Tune Up..

I'd recommend re-downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.

After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation. please disable or turn off
as much other software that always runs as you can--real time antivirus
scanning, any other antispyware software, etc.

I hope this post is helpful.

Thanks a lot Engel for the valuable reply.

I think there are lot of spyware activities going on my laptop which has
blocked the windows update page "http://update.microsoft.com". Can you
suggest an alternate way to get the updates.

Thanks

Thank Engel once more for the valuable help.

I have installed the software sucessfully.
But as the site "http://update.microsoft.com" is already blocked by some
spyware on my laptop, I am unable to get the updates.
As my updates are more than 115 days old, Defender is unable to find the
spywares.

Can you suggest any alternate way to update the definitions other than using
Defender itself.

Thanks,
Manish.
