Problem when closing picture file

When I click on the cross to close a picture opened with photo editor or fax
and picture viewer, not only does the picture file close, the folder behind
it closes aswell. This means I have to reopen the folder containing the
pictures everytime I want to look at the next picture in the sequence. It is
as though the mouse double clicks the box. I have tried a different mouse but
the problem is still there. Please help.

Fax&Pics has a pair of arrows bttm left for next\previous. That`s a start.
Does the whole page refresh, when the folder closes ?.

No, it doesn't appear to. everything open closes and takes me back to my
desktop, I then have to reopen the folder and then the picture. It doesn't
happen every time I close a pic, maybe 2 out of six times. I have also tried
a system restore but still no difference.
