Problem upgrading PP 95 to PP 2002

I have PP 95 installed in my computer. I purchased the PP
2002 Upgrade version. During the initial installation, the
system tells me that it cannot find a valid version to
upgrade PP.
Why is it that PP 2002 cannot recognize the older version?
Suggestions?
I will appreciate your input.

PowerPoint 95 is too far back to be a valid upgrade option for PowerPoint
2002. You need to find a copy of PPT 97 or 2000, or return your upgrade copy
and get a full copy.
