Problem transfering System to another PC using PQ Drive Immage

L. Peter Stacey

I want to transfer my complete system (C:) to my 'new faster' used PC.
Rather than installing Win2K and all the program files, and then getting the
necessary upgrades I thought that using Power Quests Drive Image would save
me lots of time.
Did a Drive Image (of C: drive only). Partitioned and formatted the other
PC's HD then tried to install the drive image file. Finally installed the
file (4 CD's) and the PC would not boot up. Can boot of floppy and find all?
the files and folders on CO: but not bootable. Installed System files now
boots but does not go into Windows. There is a brief flash of the Windows
splash screen and then a black and white DOS screen results. Have tried to
start WOK with Win, Winnt but all I get is bad command.
I would rather not install the new HD into the current PC to do a disk copy
if I can avoid it.
The two PC's are network card/cable connected.
Appreciate any help I can get, this problem has been going on for too long
and it would make me a great Christmas present to have it solved by then.
;-)

You cannot install Win2K on one computer, transfer the hard drive
image to a new computer, and reasonably expect it to work, unless the
two computers are _identical_.

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll most likely need
to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the
very least (and don't forget to reinstall any service packs and
subsequent hot fixes):
