problem shutting down computer

I have been having problems shutting my comp. down the
past week or two. I have to click on start, turn off
computer, turn off: like usual but now I have to do it
twice. The first time it acts like it might do it then
it stays on. The second time I do it, it turns off just
fine. I have run a couple of adware detection programs
and also have Norton anti-virus. I don't think it's been
causing problems, just a hasstle.

Larry, I am having the same turning off problem as you with Windows XP, namely having to Turn Off twice. I have tried the XP built in troubleshooter, and deleted some suspect programs, but no progress.

Were you able to get to the bottom of this? If so would you be so kind to let me know what you did? Thank you
