Problem sharing a folder on my USB-connected hard drive

I have a wireless network set up with my desktop computer connected
to the router via a direct connection. My laptop is connected via it's
wireless card. I can access the internet from both computers. I can
print from my laptop to the printer that is connected to my desktop
computer. I can also access a shared folder that is on my desktop hard
drive from my laptop. All is wonderful - so far...

Both computers are running Windows XP Home Edition at the latest level
of recommended service.

I set up a similar folder on the USB-connected hard drive on my
desktop computer. I can see the folder name In Windows Explorer on the
laptop, but when I click on it I get:

"\\xxxx\sharename is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to
find out if you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command."

Can anyone tell me how to identify what is wrong and fix it?

Thanks, Chuck
