problem saving some files

Two programs that I use which resize images no longer save the new files on
my desktop computer. The same programs work on my laptop. I suspect there
is something wrong with the windows system but I have no idea how to track
it down.

The programs are ImageResizerPowerTools, which should save the resized file
to disk, but no file appears. the other is MediaDex which has utilty to
resize files, but it doesn't work on my desktop computer (used to) and does
work on my laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I've never heard of those tools you mention, but have you tried IrfanView,
which also has an option to resize files, among many other functions? Free,
and available from:

Since these are 2 very different programs and since they work fine on my
other computer, it seems fairly clear that there is some system function
that they both rely on that is not working properly. How to find that
function and to fix it is a puzzle.

I have asked the question of MediaDex but I can't find any discussion group
for PowerTools which is put out by Microsoft as unsupported utilities.
