Problem insatlling Windows XP:.....error occurred.

I am trying to upgrade from w2k to XP. During
the "Preparing installation" process I get the following
message.

"The wizard did not install Windows XP on this computer
either because you cancelled the wizard, or because an
error occurred."

I am running an Athlon 1.2, with 1 gig memory, and two
Maxtor drives, boot is an Ultra ATA 120, slave is an ATA
40.

I have tried various things including, running scandisk
and booting in Safe mode and running the install. All give
the same results.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

what you do first is back up everything from outlook to
your favoites because you may not be able to upgrade but
do a full installation. after backing your information
up place the cd into your drive and restart your computer
the computer should ask you to start from cd if you press
any key buring the initial boot. after starting from the
cd hit f8 to accept and proceed from there. hope this
helps.

You would be better off trying a boot floppy install.
You can custom edit my boot floppy for unattend install.
Maybe even delete smardrv.exe from my floppy to slow file copying.
