Problem Importing Business Contact History Items

Guest

I've just built a new computer and transfered my Outlook BCM over to the new
machine.

I upgraded BCM and then imported my BCM data, but I don't get the History
Items for any of the Business Contacts.

Can anyone hel?

Hi Van

What was the file format used to impot BCM data was is as an *.bcm or an
*.msbcm also what is the version of BCM on which you performed the export to
backup data

Thanks for the reply Raul,

I exported two files from MS Office Business Contact Manager 2003 (I believe
it was ver 1.?). The files were:
MSBusinessContactManager.ldf
MSBusinessContactManager.mdf

Does this make sense?

Those are th sql server (MSDE) database files. If those are still
attached to your MSDE, then when you start BCM with an exisiting email
profile attached to that database, BCM should migrate the database to
v2. If you have a new email profile and select that bcm database, bcm
will again migrate the db to v2.

You cannot import those sql server files into an existing database.

This is what I did:

Exported files from the old computer (can still fire those drives up on my
old box and export something else if I need).

Once exported and the new computer had all the software and updates
installed, I created my email accounts and then imported the previously
mentioned files.

Should I have done something else?

Hi Van

Thanks for the update normally restoring the *.ldf and *.mdf should restore
history as well but look like something went wrong in this case.Great to
know that you can still fire up those hard drives once set then up
associated BCM with the old database try bacing up the data as a *.msbcm by
going to file > business data base or backup database (if BCM is version
1)or Business Tools > Backup database.Try restoring the same on the new
computer (restoring data as a *.msbcm overwrites existing data base )and if
everything goes well you should have your history

Hope this helps
