Problem importing a Text File into Access 2007

JohnG

I am trying to import a delimited text file. Everything seems to go fine, but
when I hit finish it tells me either that there is duplication in the primary
key (this happens even if I let Access create the primary key), or it gives
me "Method 'ExecuteTempImexSpec' of object '_WixHook' failed." The file loads
correctly into Excel 2007, but I again get the same error trying to load it
from there. The file will 'Open' in Access 2007, but it does not seem to save
it anywhere. It seems to just link to this file.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Some additional information about the problem

* I do have Service Pack 1 installed.
* The text file imports properly in Access 2003.
* The file failed to load in 2007 even when I reduced to 1 line of text
* I replaced the last character with a hard return, it still failed to load.
* the file fails to load with Access specifiying the primary key, if I
specify the primary key, or no primary key.
* The file fails to import from Excel 2007 (same error)
* I also tried a clean boot before trying all the above - same result.

John,
what happens if you create a brand new text file (no copy or paste from the
bad import) and try to import that?

Jeanette,

My original file has about 3000 records. I trimmed this down to 3 and it
still would not inpurt. I then trimmed it down to 1 and it still would not
import. I then trimmed the number of columns from 30 to 3, and it did load.
So one of the columns is bad, but I am not sure which one.

I just tried trimming down the number of columns to 4, and now Access 2007
crashes every time I try to load the file. I have three rows, four columns.
Here is the data if you want to try it. Note, I did not retype the data,
simply due to time)

noob r2 adj_r2 NFactors Remember_sig
2 0.483 0.432 0 0
3 0.89 0.752 2 0.007

I spent all day on this. When I load the exact file into Access 2003, no
problems. So I have reverted back to Access 2003. I would be interested in
what the problem is, if someone figures it out.

Hi John,

Just as a guess - it sounds to me as if one of your header names is
invalid/unacceptable or the rows contain a (possibly hidden) character that
breaks the import, possibly an embedded char quote or comma in there -
something.

If you want to send me an attachment with 50 rows of data - I will attempt
to isolate the column/element is breaking the import.

Cordially,
Gordon

Sorry, but I've got to say that I've just tried to import your sample data
into 2007 and it was all OK, no problem at all (I created the txt file from
scratch). I haven't bothered with trying it in 2003, since you didn't have a
problem with that.

If you like, I too will also try to find where the problem is, but you'll
need to send me your original txt file.

I spotted your problem because I too have a wierd problem with Access 2007,
wheras doing exactly the same task in Access 2003 is OK.

I'm trying to import a file which contains dates in the format ddmmyyyy.
2003 has no problem with it, but I can't get it to work with 2007. I posted
this on the 1st April (subject: txt file field DDMMYYYY fails to import into
Access'07, but OK in '03), but haven't had any replies as yet, so would be
very pleased to get some sort of help (or comfort!)

Are you using Specs to do the Import or the Export? And if so, have you tried resaving the specs?

Specs seem to have become much more sensitive in 2007. Try resaving the specs inside of 2007.
