every time i try to change the securtiy level i receive a meesage that reads
"the recommended security level for this zone is medium please chose a higher
level. i am glad it gives me it's advice but i still should be able to cahnge
the security level. every thing is up-to date with windows and macfee
security center. i am a new PC owner not user about 3 weeks now. this problem
just statred to occur in the past couple of days. the only reason that i
tried to change the security level was due to the fact that i have viewed the
same web sites before with no problem before and now i am prompted with the
"would you like to run ActiveX controls for this website." i clicked ok and
boom IE error message windows needs to close. and the browser window would
close and ask if i want to send an error report. i then took a couple web
sites put them in my trusted zone. and the same problem. yes i am logged on
as the admin. yes i have turned off macfee security center and windows
firewall together and at seperate times. Please help i am losing my mind on
this one.

Hi ssbsts,
Is the website you trusted and install the ActiveX is trustworthy site and
you believe that the contents of the ActiveX will not harm your PC, Try to
Scan for Malware and Viruses and donot forget to turn your MaCffe security
center back on. May be this site inplant a malware or tracker which make your
web browser crash, here a websites to download a scanners from;

http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm (for Multi -Av for virus checks)
and for malware try;
http://www.lavasoft.com
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html (look for trend micro).
hope this help
please write back here.

Panda_man :
While in the old Windows versions it was possible to change the Internet
security level , in the latest version (XP Service Pack 2) , you just can't
low the level .By default the internet level is set to medium adn you can
only high it. Microsoft have made tests that this level is the most
appropriate and this stop will only protect users like you ;-) I agree with
them .

This is bad practise . Windows Firewall has nothing to do with that . Are
you sure your Windows is fully updated -> XP or with SP2 and all updates .
Did you tried another browser such as Mozilla Firefox

i guess wasn't clear sorry. no i am no a new PC user just a new owner. well
if lastest version of XP is designed like that than that sticks. i should be
able to have absoulte control over my settings. it would be fine if they just
notified you instead of not letting you change. also as i said in my first
post the only reason tried to lower the level was because it was giving a
prompt for the active control which it had not donce the week before. also
as i said put that site in trusted which be default the security level is set
to low. and still with the active x prompt. yes everything is up-to date.
the firewall came back on as soon i found that it being off wasn't going to
help me lower the security level.

Ok , thank you very much for letting me know. As I said I agree with
Microsoft , noone shoudl change that level . May be the problem is somewhere
else...

Are you sure this ActiveX file is not malware and your security application
is not blocking it silently . I suggest you perform full scan with :

This above is just to check . I hope it helps . Otherwise post your question
