This win2k Prof is the pc that I used in the company which I bought it when
they upgraded their system. I know the Administrator log in name and the
password.

I wanted to install printer/fax at home and doing updating like Java. I am
unable to do so.

When I power on the pc, I log into my user name XX and password YY and log
on to: ZZ ( this is the domain name and the full name of my pc is XX-ZZ)

((There is also a dialogue box appears "Microsoft Office Communicator"
Cannot sign in to Communication Service because the server is temporarily
out os service. Contact System Administrator.))

I will just closed this box. In any case, I can go internet and download
Java but cannot install.

I go to the SAFE MODE F8 and log into the system using the Administrator
user name: ltadmin and password is :123 >desktop>c.p>users and passwords>

and under the USERS tab, ADVANCE tab
Under the USERS tab there is the 1/ User Name 2/ Domain 3/ Group.
Under User Name , there is a list of names all with the same domain name ZZ
(but strangely my name XX is not in the list)

Under the ADVANCE tab - there is Local Users and Groups (Local)
- Users - on the right pane name/full name/description
- Group - on the right pane Name /Description

As an example what is the current configuration:-

User1 from Power Users, I highlight>properties> it will give under its
general tab:-user name, full name and Description

Under the Group Membership, there are 3 sub heading
a) Standard user (besides it "Power User Group)
b) Restricted user (besides it Users Group)
c) Others - the drop down have ((Administrators//Guests//Power Users// Users))

In the USER Name - I can change some of them to C) Others - Administrators
but for some I cannot change from Power Users to Administrators

I hope I have stated all the current settings and all I want is to be able
to use the pc without any restrictions (like installing printers, fax etc) So
I hope someone can guide me how to go about this instead of reformatting the
pc

Many thanks for your kind attention

Sounds like you are logging onto your company's domain with cached
credentials. Can you log into "this computer" from the dropdown list where
your domain name is listed?

Sounds like your domain account is not a member of the administrator group
on your computer, which is not unusual.

If you have the administrator account try logging into the computer using
the administrator account and choose "this computer" from the dropdown list.
Can you get in? Can you install?
