Private Directories

The Old Coach

I have had to completely rebuild by XP Home system from scratch. When I
recovered files from my backup I had two directories that were originally
private. Now I cannot open them - Access Denied, and I cannot delete them.
I 'thought' my user ID was the same as the original setup.

Any suggestions on (preferably) a) how to get into the directories, or b)
how to delete them?

Thanks

It isn't. Although you may have used the same name for the account, Windows
doesn't use the account name for security, it uses something known as a
Security Identifier or SID. The new install and subsequent creation of a
new user account caused a new SID to be created.

You'll need to take ownership of the folders in question and then change
the permissions.
