Printing

I have a document which can have a choice of 3 cover sheets depending upon
who the document is to be sent to (always hard copy).
I print in double sides to save paper.
In order to have a document that I can edit once, I have the body of the
text following 3 cover pages - all in the same document. The contents page -
which I want to be known as "page 2" (althought it is really page 4 of the
document) has the footer of "Page x of y" where x is {page} formatted to
start at 2 and y is {numpages-3}. This effectively manages my page numbering
correctly.
Everything looks right on screen. Problems come when I try to print.
If I want to print the 1st cover page followed by the rest of the doc, I
would expect to enter "1,4-99" in the "Pages" section of the "Print..."
options.

If I do this, I get the correct cover page, but the printing starts from
Page 4 of my "re-numbered" document (i.e. in reality, page 6 of the document).

In the status bar of the document, the "left hand" page number reads "Page
4" whilst the page count reads "6/18".

All to do with my re-numbering everything, but not working how I would expect.

Anyone know how I can print the correct pages without having to delete pages
manually?
