I'm trying to print to a printer which is attached to a
XP Pro workstation and is a member of a domain. A user in
the office has a XP Home Edition laptop and I was able to
get the printer installed using a UNC for the shared
printer on the XP Pro workstation. A logon screen
appeared when installing the printer and I used the
administrator account on the local XP Pro workstation to
authenticate and install the printer. Now when the user
returns in the morning, attaches the laptop to the
network and attempts to print the printer is unavailable.
No logon screen appears when attempting to print to the
printer. By reinstalling the printer the logon for the
resource (the printer on the XP Pro workstation) appears
to authenticate the installation and printing is once
again working.
Question: is there a way to have this logon appear and
authenticate the resource access without reinstalling the
printer everytime?
