Printing problems

Hi,

My organization uses Office XP products on Windows 2000 and Windows XP
desktops. The problem that I am having is that on occasion, usually about
once a week, a few users will experience problems when they print. The
problem they have is that when they select 'File' | 'Print' and select a
printer the WYSIWYG on the screen will 'morph' into something that does not
look like a legible document. Sometimes the letters will look
non-proportional and will print that way. On extreme cases all of the
letters will actually look like and print on top of one another.

I went so far as to take one of these printed documents and scan it into a
PDF image so that I could email it. I'm deploying Office from an automated
install with a transform file and this problem seems to occur on several
different printers. I have tried this on several different queues (Netware,
MS shared, and MS local) and it can be reproduced from the different queuing
models. But it is so sporatic that I may wait 10 days or so before it
happens again.

If you have any suggestions as to what I can look at I'd gladly appreciate
your input.

Thanks in Advance,
JeffH

According to contributor Bob Buckland: "It's a bug that somehow seems to
have Word misreading temporary files related to the printer currently in
use. You can usually 'unscramble' the display from File=>Print and switch
to the printer properties or to another printer then your normal one, or
close Word and delete all files found on Start=>Search and looking for
~$*.*;*.tmp as the name string then restarting Word." See also

Graham,

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if Microsoft will ever address this bug?

Thanks again,
JeffH
