Printing photos

I have tried to print photos downloaded from my digital camera which are stored in My Pictures. The photos when displayed on the screen look perfect but when printed the colours are poor including skin colour which is very insipid and wishy washy.
I then tried printing a photo sent to me on e-mail, this looked good on the monitor and printed perfectly. I used the same printer settings and photo paper for both prints and have a good quality printer.
Has anyone any ideas why the digital camera pictures are poorin print although they appear perfect on the screen

check your resolution settings on the camera needs to be
at least 300 dpi to print well 72dpi looks fine on the
screen but doesnt print well ... as far as color ??? not
sure
