Okay, So this is the deal, I have a desktop dell, which is running Win2K, & a
laptop that is running Windows XP Home, SP1. On the Desktop I have installed
a Canon Multipass MP730, via usb. I have shared this printer so that my
laptop can also use it...however, when I go over to the laptop, to add a
printer, it doesn't allow me to added that printer on my laptop. It does see
the network. The only way I can use that printer is if I log into that
computer thru my laptop, then I have axcess, Can anyone help?

That's the way it's supposed to work, if I followed your convoluter
post correctly. It's necessary to authenticate (login) yourself in
order to verify that your user account has permission to access the
shared printer.

Well, it helps if they're the same on both machine, since Windows will try a pass-through type authentication.

But if you have different usernames and/or passwords, you can do this during logon:

NET USE \\servername\ipc$ {password} /user:domain|machinename\username

(type NET USE /? on command line)

If you don't want to enter the password in a script, then leave it out and it will be asked for.

I do this since I don't need disk mappings, just a printer connection and IPC will do this.

Always try the MS KB first before posting.
MS KB: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;KBHOWTO
And the answer could have already been posted, so try searching this and other newsgroups first.

That is, login name and password must be identical on both computers.
