printing in outline mode

When I create a list using Outline mode, the hiearchy shows perfectly on the
screen. But when I print, I lose the structure.

You must print directly from Outline view (not from Print Preview or any
other view). And note that Outline view is just that--a view; if you want
actual outline formatting, then you need to set up styles with the
appropriate indents and outline numbering.

You really don't provide much info to go on, but it sounds as if you might be
misinterpreting Outline View. The 'hierarchy', or indentation, in Outline
view is only conceptual based on the level of the topic (usually determined
by the applied Style). If you switch back to Print Layout View or Print
Preview you will see that the indentation displayed in Outline View isn't
actually applied to the document content.

In order to have the indentation appear in the doc & in print, you need to
select the content & apply the Outline Numbered (Format>Bullets & Numbering -
Outline Numbered) format of your choice, tab the lines over manually, etc.
When you do, the topics will be indented appropriately based on their level
(1-9) in the hierarchy.
