I too am having the same problem with my P3150!!! I am not a happy camper
right now. Someone as smart as Windows should have thought of all these
printer problems, or did they? Has anyone found a printer that does work
with Vista? I got a download of lexmark 1200, but dont have a clue what to
do with it. Can you help me with that? Muskrat

You're not alone. I've seen lots of people complain about unsupported
or missing or not updated drivers for Brother, Epson and Lexmark
printers. Gosh, combined that's a lot.

You MUST download the right driver for your printer model. If you have
a 1100 model and download a 1200 driver you're just wasting your time,
it won't work.

If you can find the driver that fits your model printer just download
the file, click on it and it should be self-extracting archive or a
..exe file and install itself.

That may not be a universal truth <s> HP have a listing of drivers for
other printers to try out to get them working under VISTA.

I have the same problem with my 3150. I sent Lexmark support and email and
from their reply it does not look good. Their rep said they may not update
the driver for that model. I replied and told him that is a pretty lousy
way to sell new printers that will be compatible with Vista. I guarantee
you, if they do not update this driver, Lexmark will be history at my
houselhold. Oh by the way...they never replied.

Please see the reply I got from Lexmark concerning the P3150
Does not look good. Guess I will have to buy another printer and believe
me it will not be a Lexmark:

Thank you for providing us the opportunity to assist you through our e-mail

When I bought my pc with windows vista a few days ago, I also bought a
Lexmark printer (1200) and they told me that I was going to be able to
install it; however I could not do it. I thought I was doing something wrong,
but I can see that everybody is in the same bout. Can anybody give me an
advice?

Hi, I went to the Lexmark site looking for a driver for my All-in-one X6170
and their site says a driver will be available on April 30. So maybe some of
you with other Lexmark printers will have a driver soon. You can go to
Lexmark.com and look through their driver list. There were quite a few there
for Vista ... just not mine.

Unfortunately Hugh even downloading the correct driver for your specific
model is not the issue in solving these printer problems with Vista. I have
downloaded the correct driver for my specific Lexmark model and then after
the next reboot it wants to reload a copy of the printer (unwanted). Somtimes
it does it after no reboot and just idol time. Then it does not recognize the
printer at all (does not even list it in the add printer window). And this
has happened at least a dozen times. Oh and I have only had this system for
about 2 weeks. It is totally crazy I have never understood why they did not
work these types of bugs out and give the industry a chance to catch up first
before realeasing this system.
I think Microsoft has taken a huge leap backwards with this system over all.
I have had nothing but gliche issues since we got this system.

The 3rd party manufacturers had a year and a half to get it together.. most
opted to wait for the public release of Vista, knowing full well that the
decision would impact the end user badly..

Cha-Ching! Hear the cash register ring! Bill Gates says you need a new
printer. Just a little something they failed to mention in the press
releases.

Now that would not shock me at all!
Unfotunately that leaves us wondering which printer is going to work with
Vista. I have seen a few mentioned here that tickles my fancy for what we
need a printer to do. The one that does not workor me right now though is
cheaper to use for notes other such items that don't require much printer
cartridge money.
But of course they could care less that we already bought it not knowing
that it would not work with Vista.
Thanks for the reality check Mike.
Lexmark just went to the bottom of my most trusted list.

If you have a home network where on pc at least runs XP, the printer can be
networked.. for stand alone pc's, the situation is not so good..

MSDN, TechNet, and full beta testers have had the opportunity to run Vista
since Nov 17 of last year.. the driver situation at that point was something
of a lottery, but we could see the situation getting no better as one e-mail
after another came back with 'we are waiting for the public release', a
totally unacceptable answer..

In certain cases, all the manufacturer may have to do is change the OS
identifier within the driver code, but they just wouldn't or couldn't.. HP
did finally let out a list of older drivers that would enable some of the
newer printers to work in Vista.. Not sure about Lexmark, not that I would
ever consider a Lexmark.. :)

To anyone with a lexmark printer that has vista & cannot install the drivers.
I had the same problem with the all in on x75, called lexmark & they said
that they would not be releasing new drivers for older printers. So I tried a
few things & come to find out if I right clicked on the driver & clicked
properties then compatability & clicked the check box for run this program in
compatability mode for & select windows xp (service pack 2). This has been
working for me for 3 months.
Also make sure printer spooling is started. To do this go to control panel
open administrative tools & click services scrool down untill you see print
spooler & make sure it says started & automatic if not right click & select
automatic & start.
Hope this helps someone.

I know how you feel I had my lemark p3150 networked to 3 computers in my
home, I had sooo much trouble getting lemark to help my set up the network -
i had already sworn them off - now that Im going to have to buy a new printer
and do it ALL over again. i dont EVER want to do business with lexmark again.
so I totally understand. let me know if you ever get a reply.

Unfortunately this printer is 10 years old and whilst it might still be
working for you, there are not enough of them still alive to make writing
drivers for Vista viable. You will find printer manufacturers have
generally gone back 3 to 5 years for inkjet models (slightly longer for
laser printers) because that's their average life.
