printer's software

The software for my c3180 printer/scanner/copier reinstalls every
time I reboot the computer. Each time this happens, it creates a new line in
control panel/printers (photosmart c3180 copy 1, then copy 2, copy 3, etc.).
If I want to print something from an app, I must select the latest copy or it
won't work. This doesn't seem right to me. The unit originally came with
software that was good only up to Windows XP, but I downloaded a large file
from HP that enabled it for Vista. I installed that, then encountered the
re-installing problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, which
seemed to help for a while, but now the software is reinstalling again on
every reboot. Anybody know what's going on?

You need to check with HP support to see if this a known issue with that
software.

I have the same problem with a LaserJet 6P on a notebook computer running
Vista Business. Everytime I plug in the printer cable, the software
reinstalls the printer driver. As you say, you have to pick the last printer
installed (and for me that may be HP LaserJet 6P (copy 4)). Pain in the butt!
