I was using an extension cable for my printer and could unplug the usb
and put in my ipod or my camera. one day i went to plug back in and the
printer was gone from my printers window. bought a new printer and
installed the software and when i pluged it in it said there was a
problem with the instalation. The RPC server in unavailable. I went
into run and did all the things that i was told to do and i still can't
get it to work. HELP ME

is anyone out there

This is a group with volunteers offering help, you have to wait until
someone offers the free help to you- your last words HELP ME come across
more as an order, have you ever heard of the word please?
How about giving some more details - most printers have makes and models.
And the unnamed makers sites have help- which things of their advice have
you tried to save people from repeating things you've done? What have you
done apart from post a newsgroup message? You have tried?
Did you plug the printer in before installing the printer driver? What order
does the install instructions tell you to follow?

ok my bad. first it is not a manufacturer specific problem. my HP was
working fine and then the challenge happened. Bought an Epson and
problem still persisted. I have tried everything that is on the
microsoft help site. The only thing that someone has said is that
because i was using a spliter usb cable, i might have shorted it out
when i touch the end. my computer is not grounded and maybe that is
what happened. my ipod and camera still work on the port still though.
What i have done is tried starting the print spooler manually and it
won't do it. i have not tried to uninstal the usb port yet but i do not
know how to do it. the error is linked to system 32 and i did have a
virus that attacked it a few months ago. does this give you enough info?

Can you include the original post so everyone will know what you are talking
about?

My guess is Registry or file corruption.
A Repair install or a reinstall of XP may be needed.
