Printer settings

Guest

When I try to change my printer settings so that I can share my printer on a
network I get the following mesage:
"Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."

Any ideas about what I should do?

Sounds like you're trying to change the settings when not logged on as an
Administrator.

in a cmd window type
net share

Verify that you do not already have a file share using the same name.

The error message you are seeing is the generic error displayed when
something fails but the UI does not get the message on what failed.

I had the same issue with Epson Stylus Color 400 printer on XP SP2.
After your suggestion:
in a cmd window type
net share
I got:
****************************************
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>net share
The Server service is not started.

Is it OK to start it? (Y/N) [Y]: y
The Server service is starting.
The Server service was started successfully.

Share name Resource Remark

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADMIN$ C:\WINDOWS Remote Admin
C$ C:\ Default share
IPC$ Remote IPC
The command completed successfully.

C:\>
***************************************************
After I started "The Server service", I could save (share) the printer
settings ...
Thank You.
But my notebook can't see it in "Add Printer Wizard":
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed
incorrectly, or the specified printer has lost its connection to the
server.For more information, click Help."
That is another issue ...#$%^&^%*

Solved "Windows cannot connect to the printer..." issue by running again
"Network Setup Wizard" on notebook with enabled sharing files and printers ...
