printer problem

I have a Lexmark 73 printer that I havd installed on my
computer 2 years ago. Recently I have had problems
getting the computer to comunicate with the printer. I
have redownlowded the software that came with it and have
made no progress. Yes I uninstalled it first. I even
tried downloading from the web site and still I have a
problem. I get an "Unknown device" listed under the USB
device manager listing. When I am prompt to plug in my
USB printer cable I should get a responce when the cable
is pluged in. Every thing worked at one time and now it
dose not. What can I do to fix it?

First and fore most, clear the firmware on the printer by unplugging it from
usb and power supply. The install of this printer is simple unless you did
not read and follow the instructions on the first 2 prompts.If printer was
connected when you installed and if you didn't click cancel on xp's attempt
to load drivers after you connected usb cable when prompted to. All the
lexmark drivers for this will be unsigned. Lexmark also has a cleaner for
the uninstall and directions for it on their site read them through then
follow to the letter. It is also possible that you printer is done.
