Printer problem

I have an HP DeskJet 895CXi printer that used to work on
my 98 SE box when connected to the COM1 port. I have
another Black and white HP LaserJet 1100 printer on the
LPT1 port so I must get the deskjet to work via the COM1
port. The DeskJet works perfectly when connected to the
LPT port, why won't it work on the COM port in WinXP

Probable reason you are having problems is because you need to use this
step in the instructions.

Attach the printer to the computer with a parallel cable or a USB cable.

(Serial "COM Port" connections aren't supported.)
