Printer Icons gone in WinXP home

After recently struggling with an Brother MFC-3820CN. After installing it
and un-installing it my remaining printers are all gone from the Printer
Control Panel. All my applications can print but I can't see any of them in
the Printer Control Panel. Also, I can't use the Add Printer Wizard. So
I'm stuck without being able to remove or add printers. I've tried several
things:

1) I tried the net spooler stop/start thing. It starts and stops fine.
2) I've tried manually(several ways) removing all my printers via the
registry. I now have no printers.
3) I've checked my account ( the only one) and I am marked as the
Administrator
4) Rebooted countless times after almost everything I did.
5) I get no messages when trying to "Add Printer"
6) There doesn't seem to be anything within the Event Viewer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try checking the system files to ensure they're all still there.

From the command prompt type

sfc /scannow

note there is a space between c and /

Reboot after and see if there is any change

Thanks, but that didn't help.

It scanned the WinXP Home CD for awhile and then completed. I rebooted and
check for printers in the Printer Control Panel and still nothing there.
There doesn't seem to be any information in the Event Viewr either.

Any other ideas.

I'm afraid at this point, it's probably a Repair Installation of XP that is
needed. Remember to keep the printers disconnected during the process.

I may have to do that but I'm going to keep looking for a little longer. I
am very particular about my computers and it takes me close to a month to
get my system running just the way I like it. Usually I would be the cause
for something like this ti happen but it wasn't me this time. Thanks for
the help. If I'm going to re-install hell I may as well get a new
motherboard/cpu and upgrade while I'm at it !!!

As some added info:

I noticed that I could add and remove printers from within a print dialog
pop-up box. For instance I went to print something yesterday and when the
dialog box cam up to allow me to select the printer to print to, I was able
to add and printer and also delete one. After adding a new printer, I
selected it and it printed fine. However none of my printer are showing up
in the Printer and Fax Control Panel. And the Add Printer within that same
control panel does not work.

As a side note the Setup faxing "button" works fine.

Any help?
