Printer Help Required

Hi Guys,

I have a problem regarding my Samsung CLX-2160 printer. Not the printer
itself, but getting it to work with a laptop. The way my computer is set up
is that my main tower PC running Windows Vista is connected to the Samsung
Printer via USB cable, and it works just fine! The main computer is also
connected to my wireless router (though it is actually connected to the back
of the computer via a cable).

My laptop is running Windows Vista too and manages to connect to the
internet via the wireless router no problem at all. However I want to be
able to print off from my laptop wherever I am in the house, and not through
the USB cable. Is there any way I can do this?

Many thanks guys

You're in luck! Samsung says the CLX-2160 has an Ethernet port. Connect
the printer to one of the Ethernet ports on the wireless router.

Configure your laptop to print over the network. Samsung's driver
install software might be able to do that for you. Otherwise, maybe
this will help (untested):

Note: attaching the printer directly to the network has advantages.
Mainly, it means the laptop will be able to print without requiring the
desktop to be on.

This is what you should do. You will have to research how to do it in
your OS.

1. On the tower make sure that you have the printer shared.
2. On the laptop install the printing software and drivers that came
with the Samsung. When you install the printer is should be able to
recognize the share.

Keep in mind that printing wirelessly it will be much slower but should
be OK. This is where an N Router would speed things up.

Yabut the OP may want to be able to move about with the laptop.

That was the point. Wireless from laptop to router, wired from router
to printer.
