print subsystem is unavailable

P

Paul Ableman

I have no printers in my printers folder. When I click on
the add printer icon I get: "print subsystem is
unavailable". I've restarted the print spooler from
command line and services menu and verified that the
service is set to logon system account.

I've also tried deleting registry keys that was suggested
in an earlier post. Nothing has fixed the issue.

Thanks for any help.

RPC is running. I'm printing to networked HP 4's.

Thanks,
Paul

The spooler is dependent of the RPC service. Make sure that is also
running.

What type of printer do you have?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\E
nvironments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2 and the
Version-3 entry which a) Didn't fix the problem b) nor did
it change anything. The entries have been restored and
did not fix the issue.

I was connected to the printers through standard Windows
File/Printer sharing. One LJ4 on NT4 and one on Win98.

Thanks,
Paul

I just wanted to chime in that I'm having the same problem
and of course none of the fixes have worked so this is
just a lame reply hopefully I didn't get your hopes up
that there was a solution.

I solved my problem finally. I unistalled a couple
things. Most likely it was my firewall program from
McAfee. It wasn't active but who knows. I also
unistalled Kaaza (I never used it 'I swear') and ad-aware
(which I did on accident. I'd try disabling or unistaling
any firewalls that you may have.
