Print spooler problem

Installed a new HP K550dtn printer. when I print a document it takes about 5
mins to delete the just printed item before it prints the next one in the que
and so on and so on. I tryed to stop & restart the print spooler but it won't
restart & I get a 1035 error. I have to reboot to restart the spooler but it
doesen't fix the print delay problem. I've deleted all former print drivers &
faxes, downloaded the latest print driver & called HP. HP said it wasn't
their problem and said it was a Microsoft problem & that MS had a "fix"
available but I can't find it! I'M running Win XP Pro Athron 1.2gig processor
with half a gig memory. Never had a problem with any HP printer before. Any
ideas?

disable BiDirectional on the ports tab of printer properties.

Did HP give you a QFE or KB number for the MS fix?
