Print Spooler not working...

My son-in-law's HP desktop computer with XP Home needed some cleaning
up. I took it upon myself to try to help.

After cleaning out a virus, 75 or so tracking cookies running Ad-Aware,
removing others using Spybot, defragging, installing AVG and Zone Alarm
firewall, all was right with the world - except his printer won't work.

After uninstalling, rebooting, and re-installing printer drivers for his
Lexmark printer, he gets an error message that the print spooler failed
to load. When I run services.mci, the print spooler service is set for
automatic, but it won't start. When I attempt to start it, an error
message refers to a RPC not working. Trying to start the RPC service
results in a message that some dependency isn't working.

Any suggestions on how to correct this problem will be gratefully
appreciated.

My approach to this would be to do a system restore. If it worked before you
did all that cleaning it should work after a restore. Be careful with those
virus programs.

Thanks. found a virus in system restore files. I'll give it a try, then
scan for viruses right away, even though AVG reported it being deleted.
